Understanding Air Conditioner Running Costs
Air conditioning running costs depend on three main factors: the unit's energy efficiency, how many hours per day you use it, and your local electricity rate.
Modern inverter air conditioners are significantly more efficient than older fixed-speed models. An inverter split system might cost $0.30 to $0.80 per hour to run, while an older non-inverter model could cost $0.80 to $1.50 per hour for the same cooling output.
For tips on reducing running costs, see our blog post on energy-saving tips for air conditioning. If your current system is costing too much to run, consider a system replacement with a modern, efficient model.
